Rough Draft

Hello!

This is no longer a first draft, but a rough draft. The difference being it is more than just the system, but some tables and items options added as well. All of the content I want to have in this One Page is in, I just now need to do a ton of editing and making the layout look nice and readable.

Now that that's out of the way, I guess I should talk about my thought process, as this is for a game jam. The theme of One Page RPG Jam is "Borders" and I wanted to be clever with how I did it. I ended up thinking about a system where different attributes would border another and what they are next to is important in some way. Then it struck me that this could be a neat spell crafting system and the rest of the design fell into place based off of that.

Choosing to roll bulk D6s and having a 6 result be a success just seemed like a natural fit as well as a bit of an easier way to control results for spells without having to mess with the probabilities involved with modifiers. It also keeps the power of spells relatively in check as the odds of rolling 4+ 6s is a lot lower than rolling super high on one roll with a good modifier. It also keeps it to where a player's power (Proficiency) in each of the Nodes combine in a satisfying way that isn't too broken. It feels good to roll more dice when you have two high Proficiency Nodes. It also feels smart to maybe short change one Node to put a lot of power into others or create more connections from that Node and use it as more of a modifying element to your Spells.

I am excited to get a lot of play tests in on this system as I believe it has the potential for a ton of creativity and cool moments. I try to make games that I know I at least would have fun trying out. And I can say I am pretty stoked for this.

....Now to learn graphic design......
